As a young woman, I always saw myself as being very outgoing and spontaneous. That was until I became a mom, having children tends to change things up a bit! I love being surprised and surprising others. It is not always as easy now that I have 5 little people who rely on a lot more structure.
A Daily Routine to Simplify Family Living
As a stay-at-home mom of 5 young kids, I find that having a routine brings much to peace to my home. Between home schooling, chores, play times, and house keeping, we stay pretty busy at home.
One thing I’ve learned about children is that they like to know what is coming. My oldest daughter is 8 and she loves to ask a myriad of questions concerning her daily, and sometimes even her weekly schedule. She is not really one for surprises, unless she has no clue they are coming at all.
I also have 3 little boys under 5 and they too like to know what is coming. When we get a schedule down, they like to stick to it. Recently we have had time off for a lot due to the holidays and dare I say, the flu. This caused our schedule to plummet…Completely.
Now that things are back in order, even I am excited to get everyone back on track. Our daily routine helps me to know what I need to do as well.
When I don’t stick with it I find myself a lot more stressed.
This is not to say that there’s no room for spontaneity. When new things pop up in our day it makes it all the more exciting. Many people ask me how I keep it all together and the answer is simple, I don’t.
The truth is that no one has it all together. As soon as I think I do, I am quickly reminded by falling flat on my face in utter failure. This keeps me grounded. I don’t have time to get prideful and pat myself on the back for a job well done. I just have to keep going and believe for the best! Now that things are back to normal, I can focus on what really matters — the ample things of everyday that remind me why I love being a mom!
