The past few months have been both a delight and a drain! Preparing for a new baby when you have 5 little ones already running around can really be fun, but also tiring at times. We are all excited about the new addition coming soon to a Dabney family near you.
She’s our first girl in over 6 years. After having three boys in a row, I’ll be honest and say it’s refreshing to have another girl in the family. Don’t get me wrong, I love my boys. There is definitely never a dull moment with them. Sometimes, though a dull moment or at least a quiet moment is what I secretly long for. Nap time helps for sure, but getting them all to sleep at the same time is a feat we are still trying to accomplish.
So far, all the boys have known is what it’s like to have older sisters. For the first time, they will get to see how to take care and protect a little one. I am sure this will make for many precious moments. Growing up as the only girl with two older brothers, I can relate somewhat to what she may experience with them. I can’t wait to see what adventures they will take her on!
There’s a lot to do to prepare for a new baby esp. when it’s been years since you’ve had one of another sex. We have rearranged rooms and designed her very own nursery (pictured above). We’ve purchased and received many essentials from generous friends and family. We’ve made sure the other kids know what is expected of them when she arrives. My oldest son, who’s 4, asked me a couple of weeks ago, “When is the baby going to be out of your belly, ” so there is much anticipation running through the house. Now to get rid of so many of the boy clothes we’ve collected and passed down for the past 4 years or so!
On top of all of that we are getting ready to move which is not an easy task to take on with a baby coming any day. We are very blessed to have many friends and family who have offered to help with the process, thank God! We put our house on the market a few weeks ago and have been getting great feedback so far. We hope to get an offer before the baby makes her debut into the outside world. Can you imagine showing a house with a newborn? Well, I can’t either.
We haven’t even started packing yet and at this point I will have to just make a to-do list and let the helpers do the actual work. I am full term now so she really could come any day now and I can’t wait to meet her. Her debut will definitely be one to remember with all that we have going on. It’s going to be an exciting and busy time for the next month or so. I will share more details about the move in my next post.
