Ladies Self Defense

April 1, 2014 by Nicole Decker

Be more AWARE. Sounds simple doesn’t it?  You don’t want to be at the wrong place at the wrong time but if you are you owe it to yourself to be better prepared. Statistics show that one in four women will be attacked during her lifetime. Women who resist effectively are twice as likely to escape injury as others. David Vincent’s Martial Arts and Fitness studio in Baton Rouge offers a 90 minute Ladies Night that will show you some basic strikes, escape from grabs and choke-holds to teach you how not to be a victim.

Ladies Self Defense Classes

A couple of the contributors from Baton Rouge Moms recently took a class. The instructor, Sarah Vincent, did an excellent job of demonstrating basic self-defense techniques and strategies to help escape from various scenarios. We got to practice these moves first hand during this class.

Ladies Self Defense Classes

As a runner myself, I know I take a risk by going out solo and as a mom I want my daughter to be better educated in her personal safety when she goes out on her own. We take questionable risks daily with our safety.

3 Easy Steps To Self Defense

Ladies Self Defense ClassesStep one : Prevention: Be aware of your surroundings, keep your keys in hand in as you approach your car or door. Walk with confidence. Don’t look like easy prey.  Avoid being distracted and trust your instinct. Think about what weapons you may have in your purse such as hairspray, nail file, keys etc.

Step two : Avoid Confrontation: If they want your purse then throw it AWAY from you and RUN in the opposite direction.  Have a safe word with your kids if you find yourself in possible danger.

Step three:  Stun-Release-Run:   If you must punch or kick use your whole body weight. Stun them, take them off guard and again RUN!   Don’t be a Victim

This class is offered every quarter. To see when the next class will be check their website: http://www.dvmafit.com/ladies-self-defense  or by calling  #225-766-5181
